What Is Divine Grace?
What is Divine Grace? The scriptures explain that God is realized not through independent effort, but when He reveals Himself to the soul through His own Divine power. Grace is the Divine revelation that makes God known.
📍 Where You Are in the Inquiry
We have seen that God cannot be attained by effort alone.
No matter how refined the mind becomes, it cannot reach the Infinite.
No matter how long one strives, effort alone remains insufficient.
Then a natural question arises:
If effort cannot lead to God, then
What makes realization possible?
Grace: The Only Means
The scriptures declare a decisive truth:
God is known only when He reveals Himself.
This revealing is called Grace.
Divine Grace is not merely kindness or compassion in a general sense.
It is something far deeper.
It is:
God imparting His own Divine power to the soul, by which He becomes known.
Grace Is Revelation, Not Achievement
In worldly life, knowledge is gained through effort.
But God-realization does not arise merely through
study,
reflection, or
spiritual practice.
It occurs when God reveals Himself to the soul.
Rather, it arises when:
God chooses to reveal Himself.
This is why the scriptures say:
- One may strive for countless lifetimes
- Yet remain unable to know Him
But:
Yet when His Grace descends, He becomes known.
Why Grace Is Necessary
God is not an object that can be discovered.
He is:
- infinite
- beyond material perception
The soul, on the other hand, is:
- limited
- covered by Māyā
- bound by ignorance
Between the two, there is an unbridgeable gap.
Grace is what bridges this gap.
Without Grace:
- the mind remains confined
- ignorance remains intact
- realization remains impossible
With Grace:
- Divine knowledge arises
- ignorance is removed
- God becomes directly experienced
Grace and Knowledge
It is important to understand:
Divine knowledge is not created—it is revealed.
Just as darkness disappears when light appears, ignorance disappears when Divine knowledge is imparted.
And that Divine knowledge comes only through Grace.
Thus:
- Grace → Knowledge
- Knowledge → Realization
Grace Is Not Random
At this point, a doubt may arise:
Is Grace arbitrary?
Does God randomly choose whom to bless?
The scriptures do not support this idea.
Grace is not accidental.
It is not without basis.
There is a principle by which Grace is received.
That must be understood.
