Manasi Seva (मानसी सेवा)

Manasi Seva (मानसी सेवा)

Manasi Seva (मानसी सेवा | mānasī sevā) means serving God and Guru mentally.

In Manasi Seva, the devotee performs seva in the mind. The devotee may mentally contemplate the Divine form, offer food, adorn the Divine Beloved, attend to Their comfort, accompany Their lilas, or perform other loving acts of service.

The external action may not physically occur. The seva is performed through the mind.

Why Is Manasi Seva Important?

The mind is the primary field of spiritual practice. Material attachment resides in the mind, and it is the mind that must be purified.

Shri Maharaj Ji emphasizes that merely performing devotional actions with the physical senses while the mind remains elsewhere does not constitute true upasana. The mind must be engaged in God.

Because Manasi Seva directly engages the mind in loving service of God and Guru, it is considered the highest form of seva.

Removing material attachment from the mind is one of the most difficult aspects of spiritual practice. Manasi Seva accelerates this purification. It is infinitely more powerful than physical (Tanuja) Seva alone because it directly engages the very mind that must be purified.

Through Roopdhyan, the devotee brings the Divine form into the mind. Manasi Seva engages that mind in lovingly serving the Divine form—adorning Them, feeding Them, attending to Their comfort, accompanying Their lilas, or performing other forms of mental seva.

Ashtayami Seva provides a framework for serving Shri Radha Krishna throughout the changing periods of the day. When performed mentally, these opportunities for seva can keep the mind lovingly engaged with Them throughout the day.
