Vishesh Kripa—Special Grace
Viśeṣa Kripā (विशेष कृपा | viśeṣa kr̥pā) refers to the special act of divine grace bestowed upon those who sincerely desire to attain God.
What It Is
Unlike Sāmānya Kripā, which is universal, Viśeṣa Kripā is:
- selective
- bestowed upon seekers with a genuine desire for God
How It Manifests
Viśeṣa Kripā manifests in four ways:
1. Divine Memory
When a soul reincarnates, it forgets its past spiritual efforts.
God restores all previously accumulated Bhakti, ensuring no effort is lost.
2. Divine Arrangement
God arranges the seeker’s life circumstances so they encounter a God-realized Saint (Guru).
3. Divine Conviction
God grants the inner conviction needed to recognize the Guru as the true guide.
4. Bestowal of Knowledge
The Guru then graces the soul by imparting the knowledge required to progress in Bhakti.
This grace continues in countless ways that cannot be fully comprehended before God-realization.
Key Insight
Viśeṣa Kripā does not directly grant God-realization.
It prepares the soul by:
- preserving past effort
- arranging the right guidance
- enabling true recognition
- imparting the knowledge needed to progress
In Context
Vishesh Kripa is the selective Grace by which God or Guru begins to guide the soul—granting satsang, knowledge, protection, and inner transformation—leading it toward God-realization.
Vishesh Kripa does not itself grant God-realization, but it prepares the soul for it.
Viśeṣa Kripā stands between:
- Sāmānya Kripā (general grace given to all)
- Adbhut Kripā (ultimate transforming grace)
