Loka (लोक)

Loka (लोक | loka) is a general term for an abode or realm. A loka may be either material or divine.

Divine lokas are eternal abodes of God, such as Golok of Shri Radha Krishna, Saket Lok of Shri Ram, and Vaikunth Lok of Lord Maha Vishnu. These abodes are beyond Maya and are not destroyed during Maha Pralay.

Material lokas are realms manifested through Maya. Each Brahmand contains fourteen major material lokas: seven upper realms, including Bhulok (Earth) and Satyalok (Brahmalok), and seven lower realms, ending with Patal Lok.

There are also numerous other abodes, such as Sapt Rishi Lok, as well as twenty-eight major Naraks (hellish abodes).

During Maha Pralay, material lokas are dissolved, while divine lokas remain eternal.

Alternate Spellings: Lok, Loka, लोक
