Do the Vedas Reveal Everything About God?
The Vedas reveal only a fraction of God's infinite glory, while Rasik Saints reveal intimate divine pastimes the Vedas do not.
The Vedas are the supreme scriptural authority. They reveal profound truths about God, the soul, and the path to attaining Him.
But if the Vedas are authoritative, shouldn't they reveal everything about God?
No. The Vedas reveal God's greatness, but they do not exhaust everything that can be known about Him.
To understand why, Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj offers a beautiful analogy.
The Royal Bards Who Praise the King
In ancient kingdoms, royal bards (भाट) composed poetry praising the king's greatness.
They proclaimed his glory, celebrated his extraordinary qualities, and described his accomplishments.
Yet these bards remained outside the king's private chambers.
They did not know what took place between the king and his queens within the palace.
Their praise was not false. Nor did their lack of intimate knowledge diminish the king's greatness.
They simply did not know everything about the king.
Shri Maharaj Ji explains that the Vedas are like these royal bards.
They proclaim God's glory and greatness, but reveal only a fraction of His infinite glory. Yet they do not reveal the intimate loving pastimes that take place within His Rang Mahal.
Those intimate pastimes are known to Rasik Saints.
What Do Rasik Saints Reveal?
Rasik Saints know the intimate loving pastimes of Shri Radha Krishna and reveal aspects of these divine pastimes to others.
Just as the royal bards cannot describe what takes place within the king's private chambers, the Vedas do not disclose the intimate pastimes known to Rasik Saints.
But does this mean Rasik Saints can reveal everything about God?
No.
God's names, forms, qualities, glory, and divine pastimes are infinite.
The loving pastimes He performs with His devotees are also countless.
Even Rasik Saints cannot exhaustively describe them.
Can God's Infinite Glory Ever Be Fully Described?
Consider the countless universes, or brahmands, within God's creation.
Shri Maharaj Ji explains that the Vedas do not disclose their exact number. Even if someone could count every speck of dust on Earth, the number of brahmands would remain beyond counting.
This illustrates the immeasurable extent of God's creation.
And God's greatness extends infinitely beyond what can be counted or described.
Even if Brahma were to spend all his time describing God's names, forms, qualities, glory, and pastimes, he could never exhaust them.
How, then, could everything about God possibly be contained in a book?
To imagine that God's infinite nature could be completely described in a finite collection of words is to misunderstand what infinite means.
The limitation is not in God's greatness. It is in the assumption that His infinite greatness can be exhaustively expressed.
How Much Scriptural Knowledge Do We Need?
If even the Vedas do not reveal everything about God, should a spiritual aspirant spend a lifetime searching for more and more knowledge?
Shri Maharaj Ji directs us toward a different priority.
Your Guru will teach you the relevant portions of the Vedas that you need for your spiritual growth.
Learn those teachings. Understand them. Most importantly, follow your Guru's instructions and put that knowledge into practice.
The purpose of scriptural knowledge is not to satisfy endless curiosity. It is to guide us toward God-realization.
Rather than attempting to know everything about God through intellectual study, we should acquire the knowledge necessary for our spiritual progress and act upon it.
Through following the Guru's guidance and ultimately attaining God-realization, the aspirant can attain the knowledge that cannot be gained merely by reading books.
Conclusion
The Vedas are authoritative revelations of God's greatness. But their authority does not mean that they disclose every aspect of His infinite nature.
They do not reveal the intimate pastimes of Shri Radha Krishna within the Rang Mahal. Rasik Saints know and reveal these pastimes, yet even they cannot exhaustively describe God's infinite glory, names, forms, qualities, and divine pastimes.
God's greatness is infinite. No finite description can contain it all.
For a spiritual aspirant, the practical lesson is simple: learn the scriptural truths your Guru teaches, follow His instructions, and progress toward God-realization.
The goal is not to collect endless descriptions of God. The goal is to attain Him.
