Atma-Gyan (आत्मज्ञान)
Atma-Gyan is realization of the soul as distinct from the body, mind, intellect, and senses. It is the attainment sought on the path of Gyan Marg and reveals the true spiritual identity of the self.
Atma-Gyan (आत्मज्ञान | ātmajñāna) is realization of one's true identity as the eternal soul, distinct from the temporary and material body, mind, intellect, and senses.
A person possessing atma-gyan no longer identifies himself as the physical body. He directly realizes that he is the conscious, eternal soul residing within it.
What Is Realized?
Ordinarily, a person thinks:
"I am this body."
Atma-Gyan removes this misunderstanding.
The seeker realizes:
"I am not the body. I am the eternal soul."
This realization is not merely intellectual understanding. It is direct experience.
Why It Matters
The scriptures describe Atma-Gyan as a great spiritual attainment and the goal of Gyan Marg.
Through this realization, a seeker becomes detached from bodily identification and worldly attachments.
