In Vatsalya Bhav, the devotee loves and cares for Shri Krishna with the intimacy and tenderness of a parent toward a child.

Vatsalya Bhav (वात्सल्य भाव | vātsalya bhāva) is the devotional sentiment in which the devotee loves Shri Krishna as one's own child.

In Vatsalya Bhav, the devotee's love takes the form of parental affection. Loyalty, seva, trust, and mamata—the feeling that Shri Krishna is one's very own—are its main qualities. The devotee's attention is not on Shri Krishna's almighty majesty, but on loving, caring for, and pampering Him as a parent would care for a child.

Mother Yashoda and Nand Baba reveal this intimacy. Nand Baba experiences indescribable Bliss when Shri Krishna sits in his lap, while Mother Yashoda experiences Him simply as her beloved child. Devotees established in Vatsalya Bhav do not want awareness that their child is God to interfere with this relationship.

This intimacy allows Mother Yashoda to dress Shri Krishna, lovingly scold Him when He returns covered in dirt, threaten Him with a small stick, and even tie Him to a mortar. The Almighty God trembles and cries before His mother because He allows Himself to come under the control of her parental love.
