Tritaap (त्रिताप)

The three kinds of material suffering: arising within oneself, from nature, and from other living beings.

Tritaap (त्रिताप)

Tritaap (त्रिताप | tritāpa) refers to the three kinds of suffering experienced by a jeev in the material world. Tri means three, and taap means affliction or suffering.

The three kinds are:

  1. Daihik Taap (दैहिक ताप | daihika tāpa) — Suffering arising within one's own body or mind, such as illness, anger, greed, and ego. Also called Adhyatmik Taap.
  2. Daivik Taap (दैविक ताप | daivika tāpa) — Suffering caused by natural forces, such as storms, floods, and droughts. Also called Adhidaivik Taap.
  3. Bhautik Taap (भौतिक ताप | bhautika tāpa) — Suffering caused by other living beings, including humans, animals, and insects. Also called Adhibhautik Taap.

Every jeev is subject to these sufferings before God-realization. As one practices bhakti, their impact diminishes. After God-realization, these afflictions can no longer cause suffering to the jeev.

Bhakti Burns Misery
Nobody invites misery, yet misery befalls us unannounced. Before God-realization, every jeev is subjected to vices of Maya viz, panchklesh , three kinds of tritaap or material afflictions. These sufferings are caused by a variety of reasons. Sanskrit word for these obstacles is klesh (क्लेश). Bhakti destroys these

Understand how bhakti gradually removes the afflictions of Maya and ultimately frees the jeev from suffering.
