Narak (नरक)
Hellish regions within Maya where a jeev temporarily experiences the consequences of sinful actions.
Narak (नरक | naraka) refers to the hellish regions within the material world where a jeev experiences the consequences of sinful actions (paap) according to the laws of karma.
Narak is not an eternal destination. After undergoing the consequences of the relevant past actions, the jeev continues through the cycle of birth and death.
The Shrimad Bhagavatam describes 28 principal Naraks, while other scriptures, including the Garuda Purana, describe various hellish regions and the consequences of different sinful actions.
Like Swarg, Narak exists within the realm of Maya and is temporary. Neither is the ultimate destination of the jeev.
