aarti | आरती
Aarti (Devanagari: आरती ISO15919: āratī) is the ritual of fire circumambulation of your Beloved Deity.
While performing the aarti, the devotee should consciously create a feeling of imbuing the Deity's energy into the kindled lamp.
Once the circumambulation is complete, the devotee performs the act of "taking aarti", which signifies absorbing that divine energy:
- Run your hands over the flame.
- Touch your eyes and head with those hands.
The Spiritual Significance
The spiritual results of aarti are entirely dependent on divine feelings (bhava). Perform the aarti to show your sincere love and reverence to Hari (God) and Guru. Without such divine feelings, the actions of aarti are merely a physical drill and yield no spiritual results.
Also written as arti, arati
