vishaya sukha | विषय सुख

vishaya sukha | विषय सुख

Vishaya Sukha (Devanagari: विषय सुख; ISO 15919: viṣaya sukha) refers to Material Sense Pleasure.

It is the happiness derived from the contact between the senses and their corresponding material objects.

The Hierarchy of Pleasures Vedic texts explain that Vishaya Sukha is not limited to earthly experiences. It exists on a vast spectrum of luxury and duration throughout the material universe (Brahmanda):

  • Earthly Pleasure: The lowest form of sense gratification found on the planet Earth (Bhuloka).
  • Celestial Pleasure: As one ascends to higher planetary systems (Svarga), the standard of sense pleasure increases exponentially.
  • Brahmaloka: The pinnacle of material luxury is found in the abode of Creator Brahma. Yet, even this highest level of Vishaya Sukha is temporary and insignificant compared to Divine Bliss (Ananda).
