trikarma | त्रिकर्म

Trikarma (Devanagari: त्रिकर्म; ISO 15919: trikarma) refers to the Three Types of Fruits of Actions.

In the cycle of birth and death, the soul carries a burden of actions (Karma) that determines its destiny. These are categorized into three distinct phases:

  1. Sanchita (Devanagari: सञ्चित; ISO 15919: sañcita): The Accumulated Stock. This is the infinite reservoir of fruits from actions performed in countless past lives that have not yet been awarded.
  2. Prarabdha (Devanagari: प्रारब्ध; ISO 15919: prārabdha): The Destiny for this life. This is the specific portion taken from the Sanchita stock to form the present body and the inevitable circumstances (pleasure and pain) one must experience in this lifetime.
  3. Kriyamana (Devanagari: क्रियमाण; ISO 15919: kriyamāṇa): The Current Actions. These are the new actions performed in the present life through the exercise of free will. The fruits of these actions are added back into the Sanchita stock.
