Kartik Purnima

Kartik Purnima

Kartik Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Kartik.
It is also known as Tripurari Purnima and Dev Deepawali, and is associated with several divine events.

On this day, Lord Shiva is said to have destroyed the demon Tripurasura, earning the name Tripurari—the destroyer of darkness and evil. It is also associated with the appearance of Matsya Avatar, the fish incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and the birth of Vrinda, the divine embodiment of Tulsi, revered for her devotion.

Though many events are associated with this day, this is not unusual. Time is cyclical, and across countless ages, many divine occurrences align with the same tithi (luni-solar day). What appears as multiple events is actually a reflection of a deeper pattern—Divine intervention whenever needed to restore balance, protect righteousness, and awaken devotion.

Seen together, these events point to a single truth. Whenever darkness increases—whether in the world or within the mind—Divine power intervenes to remove it and re-establish light. Thus, Kartik Purnima is not defined by one event alone, but by the principle it represents: the removal of darkness and the awakening of divine light.

For a seeker, this day is a reminder to bring light within. Just as lamps are lit externally, one must light the inner lamp of remembrance. By turning the mind toward God, ignorance is reduced, devotion is strengthened, and the path becomes illuminated.
