Sattva Guna (Devanagari: सत्त्व गुण; ISO 15919: sattva guṇa) refers to the Mode of Goodness or Purity.

The Highest Material Mode It is one of the three fundamental forces (Gunas) of Maya that govern the material world. It is superior to the other two modes, Rajas (passion) and Tamas (ignorance).

The "Golden Chains" Although Sattva Guna is the mode of goodness, it is still a binding force of Maya. While Rajas and Tamas bind the soul with iron chains of passion and sleep, Sattva binds the soul with "golden chains"—creating an attachment to happiness and knowledge, which keeps the soul tied to the material realm.

Alternate Name: sattvic guna (Devanagari: सत्त्विक गुण ISO15919: sattvika guṇa )
