Sampradaya (Devanagari: सम्प्रदाय; ISO 15919: sampradāya) generally refers to a disciplic lineage, spiritual tradition, or sect.

It denotes a group that adheres to a specific set of teachings, beliefs, rituals, and a chosen deity. Numerous traditions exist today (such as the Gaudiya, Shankara, Shaiva, and Shakta Sampradayas) and more may emerge in the future. Shri Maharaj Ji teaches that there are ultimately only two eternal Sampradayas:

  • Shri Krishna Sampradaya: Those who belong to Shri Krishna's party.
  • Maya Sampradaya: Those who belong to Maya's party.

Theological Basis This distinction rests on the truth that only three entities are eternal: Brahm (God), Jiva (Soul), and Maya (Cosmic Power). The Jiva stands between the two and must choose its allegiance.

Most spiritual aspirants belong to the Maya Sampradaya as they have been pursuing worldly happiness. Some of them might choose to accept the guidance of a true Saint, to transition to the Shri Krishna Sampradaya to belong eternally to God.
