kajal (Devanagari: काजल; ISO 15919: kājala) is a black eye makeup used for two main purposes:

1. Cosmetic: Applied to the rims and lines of the eyes (waterline, tightline) to enhance and define the shape of the eyes.
2. Cultural: Applied as a black mark on the forehead or cheek of a child to ward off the evil eye (nazar).
