dana (Devanagari: दान; ISO 15919: dāna) means to donate or give. In spiritual practice, a living being (jeev) possesses three things—body, money, and mind—and thus, donation can take three forms:

  • Physical Effort (Tanuja): Donation in the form of physical effort or service of the body.
  • Monetary Donation (Vittaja): Donation in the form of wealth or money.
  • Mental Surrender (Manasi Sevā): Surrender of one's mental faculties (will, thought, focus) in the service of Hari (God) or Guru.
Also written as daan
