avadhuta | अवधूत
avadhuta (Devanagari: अवधूत; ISO 15919: avadhūta) is a term for a spiritual aspirant who leads a renounced life of complete absorption in God.
The defining characteristic of an Avadhuta is that their state of continuous divine absorption places them beyond conventional rules and duties:
- They do not follow any Vedic regulations, including those strict rules applying to a samnyasi (monastic renunciate).
- Their actions are considered beyond the scope of prescribed rituals and they might not follow any social decorum either.
