Yamaraja | यमराज

Yamaraja (Devanagari: यमराज ISO15919: yamarāja) is the celestial deity of death.
He is a direct servant of Brahm-The Supreme God, and is entrusted with the duty of ensuring that all mayadhin jiva depart from their bodies at the time destined for them.
Among these jiva , some possess a predominance of sattvik (virtuous) qualities. At the time of their death, Yamraj personally arrives to extract the jiva from the body and drags jiva to the divine court of judgment.
He is also the sole ruler of Yamalok (also called narak). He is also responsible for carrying out the punishments in narak.
However, Yamraj holds a position lower than that of God and also lower than God-realized saints. He has no authority over such divine beings. He cannot remove their souls from their bodies. Instead, he humbly folds his hands in reverence and merely reminds them that their allotted time on earth has come to an end. The choice to leave the body—or remain—rests solely with God and the God-realized saints.
He is also referred to as
- Kaal (Devanagari: kāla ISO15919: kāla),
- Yam (Devanagari: यम ISO15919: yama).
Also, written as Yamraj.
