Vedanta | वेदान्त

Vedant (Devanagari : वेदान्त ISO15919: vēdānta) is one of the six philosophical systems of Hinduism, written by Sage Veda Vyasa.

This scripture has 545* aphorisms (sutras) that systematically analyze the teachings of the Upanishads to establish the nature of Brahm (The Supreme God) and the relationship between the individual soul (jiva) and the Brahm. It concluded that God is bliss, and He is merciful and gracious. Since Brahm is the origin of every jiva, the ultimate goal for every jiva is to attain that divine bliss (Anand). That is the only desirable purushartha.

This philosophical system is also referred to as:

  • Uttara Mimansa (Devanagari: उत्तर मीमांसा ISO15919: uttara mīmāṁsā ) and
  • Brahma Sutra (Devanagari: ब्रह्म सूत्र ISO15919: brahma sūtra)

** Some, scholars have split a couple of sutras so there is some dispute amongst the commentaries.
