shakti (Devanagari: शक्ति ISO15919: śakti) means power.

Every living being has some power. For example, a soul (jiva) has strength, the ability to pick up objects, and the power to make decisions. These are natural powers that cannot be given to others.

God is the source of everything, both living and non-living. He has countless divine powers. The three main ones are Chit Shakti, Maya shakti, Jiva shakti.

All of God’s powers, except Maya shakti, are in the form of living beings and they serve Him. For example:

  • God's power of love is Shri Radha Rani.
  • God's power of bliss is Shri Mahalakshmi.
  • God's power of grace woke Him up and reminded Him to create the world (samsara).
  • God's power of majesty saved Him from Yashoda Maiya's anger by showing countless brahmanda's in His tiny mouth.
