Sankalpa (Devanagari: संकल्प; ISO 15919: saṁkalpa) signifies a firm resolve, intention, or solemn vow made through one's own free will.

It represents a powerful mental commitment to achieve a specific goal. In Hindu traditions, a Sankalpa is formally taken before performing a puja, meditation, or any significant action to reinforce dedication and focus the mind.

Application in Bhakti In the path of devotion, one must take a specific sankalpa: to attain God right now and actively work toward it. Without this urgency, the habit of procrastination inevitably overpowers a weak resolve.
