samskara | संस्कार
Every thought that enters the mind and every decision we make leaves a mark on the antahkaran (mind). These marks are called samskaras (Devanagari: संस्कार ISO15919: saṁskāra) or mental impressions.
This process starts from infancy. That is why people take their young children to their Guru and make them bow at the Guru’s feet. Such actions create positive samskaras in the child.
These impressions continue into future lives as well. For example, from childhood, people naturally prefer certain sleeping positions, enjoy specific types of food, or like certain colors. These are all influenced by past samskaras.
