Puranas | पुराण
Just like Vedas Puranas (Devanagari: पुराण ISO15919: purāṇa) are also eternal. They convey the knowledge of the Vedas through stories that highlight universal values, such as non-violence, charity, penance, compassions, and so on.
These stories demonstrate adherence to righteous conduct despite upheavals in the lives of the characters in them. They show how the law of karma works by describing what happens after death and its relationship to righteous and unrighteous conduct prior to it.
There are 18 main Puranas containing 400,000 verses, attribute to Sage Veda Vyasa.
Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapuran was the last Purana to be penned by Sage Ved Vyas and it is the most acclaimed of all Puranas. It is held in such high esteem that it is also called 5th Veda. This Puran rejects all lower goals and advises humans to aim for nishkam bhakti of Shri Krishna.
