Parampara (Devanagari: परम्परा; ISO 15919: paramparā) generally signifies a succession or tradition passed down from one generation to the next.

It carries two distinct meanings depending on the context:

  • Social Context: It refers to family traditions, customs, or lineage.
  • Spiritual Context: It denotes disciplic succession—the uninterrupted chain of spiritual authority passed from Guru to disciple (Guru-Shishya Parampara).
