panchakosha | पंचकोश

panchakosha | पंचकोश

The antahkaran (mind) of a jiva has five sheaths or coverings of Maya over it.

Each of these sheaths is called a kosh (Devanagari: कोश ISO15919: kośa). Together these five sheaths are called panchakosha (Devanagari: पंचकोश ISO15919: paṁcakośa).

  1. annamaya kosha
  2. pranamaya kosha
  3. manomaya kosha
  4. vijnanamaya kosha
  5. anandamaya kosha

When you cross vijnanamaya kosha and reach anandamaya kosha you will experience great pleasure. However, this is the ultimate point of danger. It is only upon crossing all five that you attain the ultimate bliss. Currently, we are wandering in the first kosha, annamaya.
