nirvikalpa samadhi | निर्विकल्प समाधि

Nirvikalpa Samadhi (Devanagari: निर्विकल्प समाधि; ISO 15919: nirvikalpa samādhi) refers to the Trance of Non-Duality or Undifferentiated Absorption.

The State of Dormancy It is the state where the mind becomes totally inactive and dormant. Attaining Brahmajnana (Knowledge of the Absolute) is the highest achievement possible on the Path of Jnana (Jnana Marga).

Elimination of the Triad A defining characteristic of this state is the elimination of the Triad (Triputi)—the distinction between:

  1. The Knower (Jnata)
  2. The Knowledge (Jnana)
  3. The Knowable (Jneya)

The Unwavering Trance When the "knower" ceases to exist as a separate entity, all consciousness of duality vanishes. The Jnani enters an unwavering trance where they see nothing, hear nothing, think nothing, and feel nothing; only pure, undifferentiated existence
