mandukakupa nyaya | मण्डूककूप न्याय

mandukakupa nyaya (Devanagari: मण्डूककूप न्याय ISO15919: maṇḍūkakūpa nyāya) meaning "frog in a well," compares a frog stuck in a well to someone with limited knowledge or experience.
The frog, knowing only the well, cannot imagine the vastness of the ocean unless someone from outside tells it, earns its trust, helps it come out, and leads it to see the ocean for itself.
Similarly, a jiva (soul) with limited understanding cannot grasp the concept of God. But if the jiva trusts a saint, accepts the saint as his Guru, learns from them, follows Guru's guidance, and practices spiritual discipline (sadhana) then the jiva can eventually experience God.
