madhurya bhava | माधुर्य भाव

madhurya bhava (Devanagari: माधुर्य भाव ISO15919: mādhurya bhāva) means conjugal love for Shri Krishna. This love encompasses all other bhavas in it.

This bhava has three categories based upon the selflessness of this relationship:

  • Sadharani rati – the devotee wants conjugal love from Shri Krishna to satisfy ones own senses.
  • Samanjasa rati – devotee is mostly pleases Shri Krishna by serving Him. However, occasionally there is a desire of one's own happiness. The is an intermediate category in madhurya bhava.
  • Samartha rati – selfless or pure devotion, those who desire only the happiness of Shri Krishna and experience happiness only in pleasing their beloved: this is the highest category.
