khanjana | खंजन
The Khanjan (Devanagari: खंजन ISO15919: khañjana), or the wagtail, is a bird celebrated in Indian poetry for its unique and loving gaze. Consequently, its eyes are often used as a metaphor for the endearing gaze cast by a lover upon their beloved.
Similarly, the deer is often used as a metaphor for big, expressive eyes due to its large and gentle eyes.
