kasauti | कसौटी

A kasauti (Devanagari: कसौटी ISO15919: kasauṭī) or touchstone, is a fine-grained dark stone used to test the purity of gold.

The process involves rubbing the metal against the stone to produce a colored streak. By comparing this streak to that of a sample with known gold content, the purity of the gold can be accurately assessed.
