A jnani who realizes himself to be a soul and not a body is called jivanmukt (Devanagari: जीवनमुक्त ISO15919: jīvanamukta).

Jnanis in this state are also called atmajnani.

This state is generally referred to as self-realisation . Such a jnani is still far from the goal as he has not yet attained Nirakar Brahm.

Even though jnani is liberated from the bondage of Avidya Maya, he is still NOT liberated from Vidya Maya. At this elevated stage the jnani is still vulnerable as he can fall from this state.

Example of jivanmukt jnani is Jad Bharat before he developed affection to a deer fawn.
