The Significance of January 14th: A Historical Conferral
Beyond the start of a new year, January holds profound historical significance. On the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti (January 14, 1957), the revered Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj graciously accepted the singular title of Jagadguru—an honor bestowed by the scholars of Kashi after a hiatus of nearly 700 years.
The Unique Title of "Jagadguruttam"
This occasion was unprecedented in Indian history, as it marked the very first time the title of Jagadguruttam (Devanagari: जगद्गुरुत्तम; ISO 15919: jagadguruttama)—meaning "Supreme among all Jagadgurus"—was conferred.
This esteemed recognition acknowledged Swami Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj not only as the supreme master of knowledge but also as the foremost authority on devotion (Bhakti). He is renowned for his exceptional ability to reconcile and harmonize the teachings of all previous Jagadgurus, authentic scriptures, and saints, while presenting his own insights in perfect accordance with ancient Vedic philosophy.
Our Reverence
We offer our deepest reverence and countless obeisances to the lotus feet of the foremost saint and our beloved master, Jagadguruttam Swami Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj.
