Trying to focus on the divine form and qualities of God is called dhyaan (Devanagari: ध्यान ISO15919: dhyāna).

  • Sixth of the eight limbs of yoga compulsory for the spiritual edification of the soul. See ashtanga yoga.
  • Different acharyas of bhakti also advise focusing on God's divine name, form, lilas, virtues, abodes. Along with dhyan they used different names like
    • smaran (Devanagari: स्मरण ISO15919: smaraṇa)
    • manana (Devanagari: मनन ISO15919: manana)
    • sumiran (Devanagari: सुमिरन ISO15919: sumirana)
    • rupadhyana - focussing on divine form of God.
