devata | देवता
devatas (Devanagari: देवता ISO15919: devatā ) are celestial beings entrusted with specific duties by God. Figures like Indra, the god of rain and thunder, and Agni, the god of fire, are examples of devatas. While they possess superhuman powers, advanced knowledge, and formidable weaponry, they are still considered material beings. They reside in svarga .
Dominated by the Sattva guna of Maya (mode of goodness) of Maya , they are not exempt from mental afflictions. A key limitation of this form is that it is meant only for enjoying the fruits of past virtuous deeds.
Devatas are not entitled to perform bhakti (devotional service) to improve their future spiritual standing, a disadvantage that makes this form undesirable for humans.
However, it's worth noting that in some places in the Vedas , Shri Krishna is also referred to as a Deva.
