Darshana Shastras | दर्शन शास्त्र

Darshana Shastras | दर्शन शास्त्र

In Sanatan Dharma the path to spiritual upliftment is explored through six schools of philosophy.

Collectively these are referred to as Darshan shastra (दर्शन शास्त्र darśana śāstra) which translates to the 'science of definitive insight,' as they aim to provide an absolute, accurate, and decisive conclusion about the ultimate truth. Crucially, all six schools accept the Vedas as the supreme authority.

The 6 schools to irrefutably know the ultimate truth are :

  • Samkhya by Sage Kapila,
  • Yoga by Sage Patanjali,
  • Nyaya by Sage Gautam,
  • Vaisheshika by Sage Kanad,
  • Mimamsa (also called Purva Mimansa) by Sage Jaimini and
  • Vedanta or Uttara Mimansa by Veda Vyasa.
Also written as Darshan Shastras
