The six scriptures, one each for each school of philosophy in Sanatan dharma, are collectively referred to as Darshan shastra (Devanagari: दर्शन शास्त्र ISO15919: darśana śāstra).
Darshan means that by which one has an absolutely accurate and decisive conclusion about something.
In Sanatan dharma there are six philosophies mentioned for spiritual upliftment. All of these schools accept the Vedas as supreme authority. These are :
- Samkhya by Sage Kapila,
- Yoga by Sage Patanjali,
- Nyaya by Sage Gautam,
- Vaisheshika by Sage Kanad,
- Mimamsa by Sage Jaimini and
- Vedanta or Uttara Mimansa by Veda Vyasa.
