Ajnana (Devanagari: अज्ञान ISO15919: ajñāna) means ignorance or the absence of knowledge.

Jiva has eternally turned away from Bhagavan. So, Maya has covered the jiva with three veils of Ajnana called avarana - asatvapadak, abhanapadak, anandapadak.

Jiva is an eternal part of omniscient God. Still, due to these avarana jiva experiences the absence of true divine knowledge.

To combat this knowledge-less state jiva continually strives to attain knowledge.

Also written as agyan.
