aja kripaniya nyay |अजा कृपाणीयन्याय

aja kripaniya nyay (Devanagari: अजा कृपाणीयन्याय ISO15919: ajā kr̥pāṇiyanyāya ) is another rule in the book of rules called Nyay Shastra.

Word by word these are the synonyms

aja = goat | kripaniya = sword | nyay = rule

It simply means being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In other words when ill fate has to befall a person then such events happen which cannot even be conceived in advance. Yet, with the chain of events one gets harmed and no one can be blamed for it.

The name draws its meaning from this story.

A goat was tied to a stake. Someone let the goat free to graze. Goat was moving around in search of grass. It strolled into a verandah. A sword was mounted on the wall of the verandah. A bird was hopping on it. Every time the bird hopped the sword slipped a little. As the goat went under it the bird hopped one more time and the sword fell. The edge of the sword hit the goat and slit its throat.

In such a situation no one can be held responsible for the death of the goat. Such instances are called aja kripaniya nyay .
